Amazingly, even today, the vast majority of information sent over the internet is unencrypted. Effectively, unless encrypted, any email you send can be read by anybody with access to that data. A typical email sent within the UK will pass through a dozen or so networking systems and at any of these the email may be intercepted, read, even altered then sent on it’s way. Informal IT can offer solutions for end to end email encryption. This is especially useful for emails between sensitive departments, (such as Human Resources & Payroll) or business partners outside of your organisation. Virtual Private Networks A Virtual Private Network (VPN) allows you to connect known trusted networks (eg. your main office) with other trusted networks (eg. a branch office) with strong encryption. This means you can safely and conveniently connect known trusted entities together, over the internet, knowing that information cannot easily be intercepted and read. VPN’s are very common today, this is mainly due to the fact that they are immensely cheaper than dedicated private lines, which have previously fulfilled this role. However, it is vitally important to implement a VPN correctly, for example, the system on the other side of a VPN, into your main IT systems, may not be that friendly… Informal IT can advise and configure a multitude of VPN solutions for your business as well as offer advice and solutions on all forms of remote connectivity. We can also offer support for currently implemented systems and audit any external connections you may have in place, to ensure correct implantation and security. Certificates & Access to Web Applications A plethora of modern applications are now available for workers via the web. All modern business email systems, most notably MS Exchange, can be accessed via an internet link. Without proper encryption in place, ALL data accessed by employees over these connections is open to be read by anybody. Certificates help secure communications between your internal web-based application and the remote worker. This security not only covers the data held within the transmissions, but also the passwords used to authenticate the people privy to this data. Informal IT can help you implement, with the use of certificates, a secure, safe, web based working solution. Whatever the application. |
